Merceeda Agatha Ingram (Nee Baxter) nick named Nurse, was born 25th December 1935 to Inez Williams and Bertie Baxter in Kingston Jamaica. She grew up in Kingston living at 73 Love Lane, brought up by her Grandmother Victoria Johnson and enjoyed a happy and settled childhood. Her caring nature became apparent early in her childhood as she looked after the younger siblings and she would visit the local hospitals on a regular basis. She was educated at Clarendon College until the age of 18. In 1955 she left Jamaica sent by her grandmother via ship to train as a Nurse in England. She trained at Dudley Road Hospital and went on to do further studies at Dudley Guest Hospital and at Worcester Hospital. She met Octavious Ingram and married him in 1959. They had 2 children, a daughter Valerie in 1959 followed by a son Paul in 1960.She was fiercely protective of her children and did an excellent job of bringing up the children single handily after she separated from her husband in 1965. They divorced in 1973, the same year she qualified as a Registered General Nurse. She spent the next 20 years working as a nurse in a number of general hospitals and residential homes. She was a deeply devout Christian lady who always cared about others praying for and supporting them practically. She was a highly respected person by her peers and was loved by her family and by those who were her close Friends. She moved to Manchester in 1994 and worked nights in as an agency nurse in Residential and Nursing homes until she became ill in 2005 as a result of a stroke. She spent a brief time at Chestnut court, followed by a longer spell in Limefield Court in Warmersley where she frequently persuaded staff to buy her Allens Fried Chicken and fish and chips for late night suppers. ln 2007 she had a second stroke and as a result she was moved to Pendle Home where she was cared for until the home closed in 2008 and she was moved to Rose Court where she spent her last days when she died on 28th September 2011.
